Featuring High Protein Foods, Bars and Powders

Quest Protein Bars: My New Indulgence

After seeing one of my Facebook friends post regularly about the Quest Cookies and Cream bars, I thought I better give them a try.  I value this friend’s opinion as she is very health and fitness minded and is in great shape.  She’s not a Quest affiliate which made me feel that her positive posts about the bars were very genuine.

I ordered a box of them online (12 in a box) and then also added in a single package of their High Protein Peanut Butter Cups.  The minute my shipment arrived, I grabbed a Cookies and Cream bar as I happened to be hungry at the time.

Cookies and Cream Bars Taste Great!
Well, what a pleasant surprise that my Quest Bar tasted more like a treat than a protein bar.  It was so good that I had to share with my husband.  He doesn’t eat protein bars because he prefers candy bars.  I was expecting his normal, “it tastes like cardboard” comment, but he surprised me when he said that he liked it! He even grabbed another one.  He said it tasted sweet to him and assumed that it was very high in sugar.  Well, he was wrong as the bar has just 1 gram of sugar in it.  I’m glad that he likes the bars because they are better for him than candy.  But the bad part is, is that between both of us eating them, the box of bars was gone within a week.

Peanut Butter Cups: My New Daily Indulgence
The day after receiving my shipment, I decided to try the Peanut Butter cups.  Now, I love Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups but I don’t eat them very often because one package (2 cups) has 210 calories, 21 grams of sugar and just 5 grams of protein.   The Quest Peanut Butter Cups package (2 cups) does have 240 calories, but just 1 gram of sugar and 20 grams of protein.  That’s a big difference in sugar and protein between the two.  Ok, but how do they taste?  They taste like chocolate and peanut butter!   For some reason I was surprised that they tasted so good.  I liked them so much that in my second Quest order, I bought a whole box of them.  The husband likes them too and I eat one a day at work for a little treat.

Lots of Great Flavors to Choose From
Also with my second Quest order, I bought the two sample packs of protein bars.  One box contains 12 bars of different flavors and the other contains 2 bars each of six flavors.  As much as I liked the Cookies & Cream bar, I wanted to try their other flavors.  They all sound like a desert!  The Vanilla Almond Crunch, Apple Pie, Chocolate Brownie, Mixed Berry, Peanut Butter Supreme, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, White Chocolate Raspberry and Cookies & Cream bars are sweetened with sucralose.  The Chocolate Peanut Butter, Cinnamon Roll, Strawberry Cheesecake, Coconut Cashew, Lemon Cream Pie, Banana Nut Muffin and Double Chocolate Chunk flavors are sweetened with stevia.

Regardless on how they are sweetened, the nutritional profile of the different flavors are similar.  Each bar has between 160 to 210 calories, 20 or 21 grams of protein, 3 to 7 net carbs and zero junk ingredients.  Plus, they are all gluten free!

Well, I received my sample packs and each day I eat one.  As I expected, there are some flavors that I like more than others.  So far, my three favorites are the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (love the chocolate chunks), Cinnamon Roll (lots of cinnamon taste) and the Mixed Berry  (strong berry flavor).  The chocolate brownie looks just like a brownie and tasted pretty good.  But next time, I think I will heat that one up.  If you really want to get fancy, Quest also supplies a recipe book which gives you fun deserts that you can make with your bars.

One other note about them is that they are all soft.  This is good for me because I like to tear off small chunks at a time with my hands rather than biting off a piece with my mouth.  This is so I’m not greeting the public at work with food stuck in my teeth.  Anyway, some of the harder bars from other companies have lots of crumbs that fall to the ground when I break them apart.  I don’t have that problem with the Quest bars.

Where To Buy Them and Cost Information
I’ll be buying more bars because they taste so good and they are high in protein.  Because they are over $2.00 a bar, I chose to enroll in Quest’s auto-delivery program because then you get a 10% discount.  As long as you buy two boxes, the 10% discount cancels out the $4.95 flat rate shipping fee.  What’s great about the auto-delivery is that you can change your products and frequency of shipments at any time.   Of course, you can buy Quest bars from other places such as Amazon, GNC and the Vitamin Shoppe.  I’m on a budget and when I did my calculations between all four retailers, the Quest auto-delivery was the least expensive for the 3 boxes that I ordered.

I am so glad that I finally discovered Quest Bars.

Best,

Diana
